This Privacy Policy explains how Yard Sale Finder ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Yard Sale Finder mobile application, the website at yardsalefinder.app, and related services (together, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.

1. Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

• Account information — such as your email address and password (stored in hashed form) when you register.
• Content you provide — sale listings, item descriptions, photos, saved searches, favorites, reports, and other content you submit.
• Location information — see the section below.
• Device & push information — a push notification token and basic device details so we can deliver notifications you've enabled.
• Usage information — basic technical data such as your IP address, app version, and interactions, used to operate and improve the Service and keep it secure.

2. Location information

With your permission, the app uses your device location to show yard sales near you and to sort listings by distance. You can grant or revoke location access at any time in your device settings; if you decline, you can still browse by entering a location manually, though some features may be limited. When you post or edit a sale, the location you pin for that sale is stored as part of the public listing.

We also store your general area — a ZIP code and city derived from your device location or from a location you search from — so we can tell you about sales happening near you (for example, "17 yard sales in your area this weekend"). We store only this approximate, ZIP-code-level area, never your precise location, and we keep only your most recent area rather than a history. If you'd like it removed, contact us at the address below and we will delete it.

3. Analytics & cookies

We use Matomo, a privacy-focused analytics tool that we host ourselves, to understand how the Service is used, diagnose problems, and improve it. Because we host Matomo, this usage data is not sold or handed to third-party advertising networks.

• Website — on yardsalefinder.app we count page views and, only if you accept our cookie banner, set analytics cookies. You can decline; if you do, page views are still counted but no analytics cookies are stored on your device.
• Mobile app — in the app we record screen views and key actions (such as posting, saving, sharing, or searching for a sale). This is tied to a random device identifier and, when you are signed in, to your account, and it may include the specific sale involved, so we can trace and fix issues and understand which features are used. We do not use precise location, your email, or the content of your listings for analytics.

We keep analytics off unless we have enabled it, and we use it only to operate, secure, and improve the Service. To ask about or opt out of analytics tied to your account, contact us at the address below.

4. How we use information

We use information to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Service;
• Show nearby sales and sort listings by distance;
• Let you post, search, save, and favorite sales;
• Send push notifications and alerts you've enabled (such as saved-search matches and sales in your general area);
• Enable safety features such as reporting and blocking, and moderate content;
• Protect the Service against fraud, abuse, and security threats;
• Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only:

• With service providers who help us operate the Service (for example, hosting, mapping, and push-notification providers), under obligations to protect it;
• Publicly, for the content you choose to publish — see the next section;
• For legal reasons, when we believe disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of users or the public;
• In a business transfer, if the Service is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

6. Information you make public

Yard sale listings are public. When you post a sale, its details — including the pinned location, dates and times, description, and any photos you add — are visible to other users of the Service. Please do not include sensitive personal information in listings, and only post a location you are authorized to share.

7. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Sales are ephemeral and expire after their dates pass. If you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we need to retain certain information to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including hashing of passwords and encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your choices & rights

• Access & deletion — you can delete your account at any time from within the app, which removes your listings and associated personal information as described above.
• Location — control location access in your device settings.
• Notifications — turn push notifications on or off in your device or app settings.
• Blocking — block other users to stop seeing their content and prevent interaction.
• State privacy rights — depending on your state of residence, you may have additional rights to access, correct, or delete your information. Contact us to make a request.

10. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

11. U.S.-only & data location

The Service is intended for users in the United States, and we store and process information on servers located in the United States. The Service is not intended for use outside the United States. If you access it from elsewhere, understand that your information will be processed in the United States.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the app. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
